I'm going to state publicly, what I've been thinking for a bit. The BEST Qn episodes are the ones written by Sage. This one especially.

And yes, all the ones referring to your mother, Sage, but the "living in the yurt", and "going to meet the boy in the motel" and "my best friend in grade school" and all the other ones I'm forgetting, are real treats.

Doina and Sage: This was a great episode (that I finally had the time to listen to). Doina, not only is the story of your experience in 1984 Romania fascinating in and of itself, but you also have a real gift for storytelling.

In 1984, I was 13 and my dad was stationed with the U.S. Army in West Germany. Sometime during that year we went to visit the Fulda gap, which was a major site of concern during the Cold War. (It was a valley, and so potentially a corridor for Soviet tanks.) I remember standing on the wall on our side, looking through binoculars at the East German soldiers on the other side, wondering what they were thinking. The US soldiers on the wall had warned us sternly not to make any sudden movements while we were up there, lest we get shot. I remember believing this utterly and completely. It was terrifying. Now I tell the college students that I teach these stories and they just laugh.

I'm listening to this at last and am finding the whole Chris phenomenon fascinating. First we had Tim, then Jancis, then Will and now Chris. Clearly they are getting younger and cuter and sweeter and more bunny-like by the minute. I am fascinated to hear who is coming down the pike next!

This was the first ever episode of QN I listened to after subscribing from randomly finding QN on iTunes following a search for ‘feminism’ and seeing the cartoon of a shaved-headed writing woman (I thought, ‘This is the podcast for me!’). I really enjoyed listening to the party on the motorway while I wandered around the university library looking for books, though I was somewhat confused at the fact that this American/Canadian podcast seemed to be set in the UK and narrated by a Brit. After listening to a few more episodes, I realised the eclectic nature of QN and the multiple contributors. Now it’s popped up again in my iTunes feed and I listened to it for the first time in over a year, I recognise the voice as the lovely Kate.
