The three takes rule is really best explained via audio.

But if you’d rather read about it:

I would like 3 takes for everything headed with your character name. For example:

MARY
Purple forks? [beat] Purple forks? [beat] Purple forks?

Read as the same character each time, with slightly different inflections. That way I can choose the take that works best with the other Minion audio.

If you have more than one sentence, read what’s under your character name all the way through. Then again, then one more time.

For example:

MARY
Nanna, the purple forks? Do they go under the elephant? Because I don’t think that’s a very good idea. Well. Unless you’ve checked with the health department. [beat] Nanna, the purple forks? Do they go under the elephant? Because I don’t think that’s a very good idea. Well. Unless you’ve checked with the health department. [beat] Nanna, the purple forks? Do they go under the elephant? Because I don’t think that’s a very good idea. Well. Unless you’ve checked with the health department.

Your next 3 takes ONLY begin when you see your character name again.
