Having recently put my children into the school system after habving homeschooled for four years I have found that they are awfully resilient. Yes the classes are too big, yes bullying occurs (and I hated all of this when I was a kid..and still do) but my kids, anyway, have seemed to take out of it the joy of learning. I would happily pull them out this minute, and if the right circumstances occur I will, but, for the most part, they seem to be doing just fine. I wish that I could say the same for me.

While I was homeschooling my children I got the odd negative comment but most of the responses after the initial confusion were praise and admiration. The hardest part, I found, was believing in yourself.

I usually get: You're so brave; I could never do that.

Bang on about the Ray Bradbury story.
and
I've had the same weird conversation just a couple times when I let slip that we homeschooled. Alien life forms indeed.
