I listened to today’s podcast earlier in the day, and the characters have been milling around in my head all day, so I thought I should leave you a comment to say how much I enjoyed the answering machine story.
I also found myself humming Dar Williams’ “The Pointless Yet Poignant Crisis of a Co-Ed” which, if you haven’t heard it, is definitely worth a download from iTunes or wherever you can find it. “And my ex-boyfriend can’t tell me I’ve sold out. Because he’s in a cult. And he’s not allowed to talk to me.” (Line from the song, not from my life. Thank goodness.)
Wow, Sage. After the Beep today was the.best.ever. Reminded me of people I’d known in my previous life as a Californian. Had to listen to it several times to get every nuance of expression. Thanks.
I can just see you, wandering through thrift stores, cruising for answering machines, furtively checking over your shoulder to make sure the employees aren’t watching, while you crack open the old machines to get the good audio out. Then it’s back to the studio, where you stand over a mic saying, “Psst. Over here. I got something for ya…”
Isn’t there a law against audio pushing?
Wow. I think that I’m going to be looking for used answering machines, too. If I find anything great, I’ll share because it is all your fault, anyway!
I’m really enjoying the new anwsering machine stories! Very creative! Great job!
I loved this episode. I actually listened to it twice and I NEVER do that!
Thanks, Sage. Your podcast is awesome.
