As a history major I learned that the most important event of the 20th century was the movement of 60 percent of the population of America to the cities. As a an avuncular friend I told my friends kids a few years ago, about the way the lagoon would produce a way to save the castaways, but Gilligan would mess it up this week and the Skipper would hit him with his hat! Next week the lagoon would produce some way .... I podcast. I write. I am now a voice actor and a blogger. I want to take part in the next change and change is happening! I really liked this essay. My two boys, ages 3 and 6 find the whole idea of broadcasting, either television or radio to be quite absurd. So - I think L. and I are not alone in eschewing living with a TV; I also think our choice is becoming more commonplace over the past just-a-few years. Not that we don't still fritter time away reading and messing about on the computers, of course, but yes, indeed, I find myself more active at the websites where one does something. I wonder how many Wikipedia-projects big the Gutenberg Project is at this point, having started to get public domain books into machine-readable state in 1972 and ballooning some time around 2002 or whenever it was someone built a system for folks to proofread in page-sized units rather than book-sized units. Hrm, no, I'm not going to count; I'm happy enough to know it's there and my wee contributions have impact.
