My great-grandfather started the first janitorial company in Glendale, CA. Three generations later, I hate cleaning. Coincidence?
My maternal grandfather was a lobster fisherman for most of his life. He and my maternal grandmother had 7 kids, so as far as I know, her only job was mother/housewife.
My paternal grandfather worked for CN Rail in Ontario, was a pilot in World War II, and had some sort of military career after that that took him through the UK a lot. My paternal grandmother, from Scotland, mostly did a lot of min wage type jobs, probably in factories or restaurants and such.
My favorite George W. Bush Singers recording is “Deep Thoughts part II (”working hard to put food on your family”).
My maternal grandfather was a school administrator and farmer. My paternal grandfather (sometime sharecropper) was usually off doing something his family knew nothing about. His wife raised the kids and cleaned other people’s houses.
