I want to invite you all to participate in the QN Day of Listening.
Now, there’s a National Day of Listening run by the non-profit group StoryCorps, which is where the QN Day of Listening idea came from.
Participating is simple. Here’s how it works:
Choose your interview partner. Who should you interview? Your best friend, your parents, grandparents, spouse, community leader, the choices are endless. You know someone who tells wonderful stories. Everyone does.
Write down the questions you want to ask your partner.
Record the conversation – and there are a lot of really inexpensive recording options. In this case, audio quality takes a backseat to the stories your interview partner tells.
Send it to me, and do a happy dance as you hear your interview on QN along with all of the other listeners.
Easy-peasy, right?
StoryCorps offers two invaluable tools for this project:
1) A Do It Yourself instruction guide, (they do ask for your email address, but once you’ve typed that in they immediately give you access to the pdf) which offers excellent tips on choosing recording equipment, asking questions, and recording locations.
2) A Questions Generator, which takes you through a small questionnaire about your interview partner, then gives you a list of pertinent questions.
